Kuanti Pan

Kuanti Pan joined the ville a while ago now, but he’s been a lot more active in the forums and chat since he moved to Washington D.C. last year. I’m going to guess it’s cause this true son of Samoa (“Lauli’i for life!“) misses being around his own people, and where else on the net are you going to find the kinda crazy characters, stupid humor, faikakala, dramatics and all the love that you’d expect from a real Samoan village? Let’s find out a little more about the man they call Q.

How did you find One Samoana?

It was because of this young lady named Hanalei who I worked with and she insisted I join the site. Im glad I did because Ive made alot of friends on 1samoana.

What’s the funniest/craziest thing you ever witnessed/did in the village?

Im not much of a internet person so when I first started getting into the site and upchat. I would see people typing random numbers and letters in the rooms and I would always wonder what the hell they were doing. It wasnt until Hanalei did it in one of the rooms and I asked her about it. She told me she was flooding it so people with wandering eyes cant read our conversation.LOL. I felt like such a computer fob.

It’s also funny to see people who are banned log into the upchat with a different name and play cat and mouse with the Admins and Mods. But they always get busted cause they tend to start trouble all over again. LOL, its entertaining though and I get a little laugh out of it.

What’s an experience you had that made you SO proud to be Samoan?

Well when I first moved to DC last year and I was looking for work. I applied at this restaurant in downtown DC and the owner happen to look at my application before I left. He stopped me and asked if I was Samoan. I told him yes and he hired me on the spot. He knew a few Samoans while he was in the service and he told me that he’s never met a more hardworking, loyal and family oriented people in his life. I was very proud to be Samoan at that moment and I have nothing but unconditional love for our people.

Tell us about your passion/hobby/work

Im a chef so you would think my passion is cooking. Its actually my family and loved ones. What I am and all I do is done for the benefit of them.

My hobbies would be cooking of course . To see the peoples faces when they eat one of my dishes. A woman once told me that my cooking was orgasmic.LOL. I took her word for it. I’m also into art. I draw, paint sculpt and carve. I love pieces of art that have a practical use also, such as a laupapa elei that you use to make the beautiful prints on materials. My first gift actually to one of the natives here in 1Samoana was a few laupapa eleis that I had carved.

Whats a project you’re working on that you want everybody to know about?

Im starting on some bone carvings and drawings of island subjects. I helps keep me busy and to feel closer to home. Being here in DC there aren’t many Samoans here and even less things that remind me of home, so I’m just trying to bring a little more of home here.

Your final thoughts and shout outs:

Dont be afraid to fall, and try to take something away from each experience you go through. Love what you have and embrace those who love you. Respect yourself by showing others compassion and understanding. Especially our island women, adore and respect them. For it was a woman that gave birth to you and it is a woman that keeps this island boy sane. Fa’afetai tele mole avanoa.
