Choco Fever

The minute this lady breezed into the ville, I was just a little bit awestruck. It was kinda like being at the geek table in the cafeteria, watching the cheerleaders swish by. The power of her opinions in the forums, the intelligent conviction in her blog posts, the sheer confidence she radiates from her always beautiful faleo’o to every comment she drops, Miss Choco (sometimes known as Choco Taste Juicy, Choco Pookie, or my favorite, Dang Choco Fine) is undoubtedly a headturner!

Name / Location

My name is Kenya Gabrielle Edwards..first name is african middle is italian and last hmmm…I have no clue…Im from Detroit, Michigan better known as motown city, the birth of motown.

How did you find One Samoana?

How I found out about 1sa..LAWD!! its a long story…I have a youtube account and my most popular video is about samoan guys..I think they are so beautiful..Somebody messaged me and told me to check out…I had no clue what this was going to be like but it turned out that 1sa is my worldwide home lol..

What’s the funniest/craziest thing you ever witnessed/did in the village?

I have had so many good memories here on 1sa..Most of them were in the discussions and upchat..I remeber back in the day when me and Jv had a competition to see who could get the most comments on their discussion..I won from the help of mana..she commmented on my discussion like 80 times with all those silly pictures. But overall just talking with the natives in upchat, you never know what to expect when you come to 1sa.

What’s an experience you had that made you SO proud to be Samoan?

Ok there has been such a confusion with my nationality here on 1sa. I remember that I used to act like I was samoan cause I was a samoan in my past life lol. But my heritage is African American, Native American, and white. But I have always loved the polynesian culture, espically Samoan. Alot of people would ask me why do I love Samoans so much. I would always tell them its because Samoans remind me so much of my own people. We share the same customs like R.E.S.P.E.C.T, religion, music is all important to us. Just being here on 1sa I feel like im talking to my cousins, aunts,or uncles. It good to know that there is a culture out here who is so down to earth like us African American/blacks. I remember I heard an unsigned samaon artist song being played on a black radio station. I was so proud of samoans for showing their talent to the world. Here in America, Samoan people dont get much attention and it makes me feel so good when I see an Black or Samoan person making it big and doing something positive with their life. Were such talented people and its time we show the world what we have to offer.

Tell us about your passion/hobby/work

I have such a passion for Tahitian dance. Its probably the only hobby I have. I been dancing since I was three years old doing simply Jazz,Tap, Hip Hop, and ballet. Over the years I become less interested in dance. I remember I was on youtube looking up belly dance videos and there was the one video about tahitian dance. At the time I had no clue what it was. When the video started playing I was so amazed and fell in love with dance all over again.Since then I have been doing tahitian dance and I have to admit, I am a pro at it.Over here in Michigan there isnt a polynesian dance studio sitting on every corner. So I had to teach myself. With all the hard work, and tears I think im better than most of the tahitian girls lol.

Whats a project you’re working on that you want everybody to know about?

A project that I am working on will have to be finding who I really am. Being an young adult can be hard. Trying to figure out what I want in life and where I want to go is so confusing for me. I hope that in the near future, when somebody ask me what is my goal in life, I can answer that question with pride knowing what I want to do with myself.

Your final thoughts and shout outs:

I am ADDICTED to 1sa. When I say ADDICTED I mean ADDICTED. I used to have such a bad habit of trying to go to facebook and all of a sudden I would end up in 1samoana, realizing that I typed in 1samoana instead of facebook lol. I really love this place, and I will never leave. Since I understand and am proud of my cultures, this gives me a chance to explore other cultures, and I can say with such pride that I really do love the samoan culture and its people. 1SA NATIVE FOREVER! LOL

HGG Notes about Choco:

* This pic I stole from her photo album (right) reminds me of that one song on her playlist… ‘Don’t hate me cause I’m beautiful!’. I hope to one day learn how to strike even half the poses this girl has mastered 🙂
* Her faleo’o is alway so… designer. I remember when it was pink with shimmery stuff in just the right places. No it’s all mature in classy black and white. Love it!
* I also love when she starts telling her ‘ghetto’ stories.. they get me rolling everytime! Like in this post … LOL @ the ghetto baby calling out ‘come here sexy ladies’. Seriously? LOL.
* Choco used to have clips up of her and her sisters messing around in front of the camera. Gorgeous family!
* My favorite thing about Miss Choco though is knowledge, love and pride she has for her her culture… as a beautiful African American lady and an adopted Samoan Native ;). I am personally pretty mimika that she chooses to hang out with us in the ville. Yay Choco! 🙂
