Westcoast Uce

Lowellan Saumalu hasn’t been in the village very long, but thanks to forum comments and some incredible blog posts, I already feel like I know the guy just a little bit. He currently lives in Arizona, although he grew up in California. He’s had a rough life so far but is determined to spend the rest of it doing good, especially for kids growing up like he did. He’s got some strong views about community and social issues, but is also a big softy on the inside (you know you are! lol). Hmmm.. what else can we find out about this WestCoast Uce?

How did you find One Samoana?

I forget how i found One Samoana or what i was even originally searching for .. i guess i just kinda stumbled upon it .. glad i did to.

What’s the funniest/craziest thing you ever witnessed/did in the village?

Never witnessed any crazy things .. but the funniest things are always the conversations in the village fono .. my favorite one was something about Samoans not really being samoans if they dont speak the language. It got a little heated. lol

What’s an experience you had that made you SO proud to be Samoan?

I’ve always been proud to be Samoan .. especially growing up in Cali .. all i ever hear when people find out Im Samoan is how chill, real, and down to earth our people are .. and of course .. everyone says this .. “they’ll be the best friend you ever had one minute .. but piss em off and its over for you.” lol

Tell us about your passion/hobby/work

My passion and my hobby is helping to fight for the lil man. Im an activist by nature and a revolutionary by choice. You can find me out their organizing to fight some sort of struggle against the government or big business on any given day. Im also for empowering and ministering to at risk youth. Helping the youngsters find a better path and giving them the tools necessary to make it in this world. I’ve been through a lot .. and i want these kids to know that whatever they’re going through their not going through it alone. I think thats a big misconception that a lot of us have had when we were younger going through our struggles .. everyone thinks their alone .. and that feeling can lead to dangerous behavior.

Whats a project you’re working on that you want everybody to know about?

A project im working on is a new non profit organization designed to empower at risk youth here in phoenix. Its still in the beginning stages of development so i dont want to give too much out til everythings official.

Your final thoughts and shout outs:

… dont really have any. lol

keep it love one sa

HGG Notes about WestCoast:

* Hang out with this brother in his faleo’o.
* Discover his deepest thoughts in his village blog… but don’t go in there unless you got an iron heart or a big box of tissues!
* I actually learned a lot about WestCoast from the forums. He shared a heartbreaking family story in the first (and only) discussion he started: Alcohol Killed My Mother
*…and contributed several memorable comments to other discussions. Here are some of my favourites:

* Oh, and he’s got a ccrrruuussshhh on somebody 😀
